Monica Newswanger is a Philadelphia artist who works in painting, sculpture, and installation as a way to explore my internal struggle of collective identity formed through ancestral history, while trying to create a personal distance from the past. The sculptures and paintings are used to create visual tension that is formed when experiencing play and discomfort simultaneously, which is meant to mimic the internal struggle.
Newswanger has a BFA and Art History minor from Moore College of Art and Design. Her design was chosen as the banner design to be displayed for the 2018-2019 school year at Moore College of Art and Design. Her senior thesis won the Superiority in Fine Arts Award from Blick Art Materials.
